Good morning and welcome to the daily digest of automotive news from around the world, starting with…
Combustion Engine Vehicles Still Very Important In Global Market Says BMW CEO
With automakers betting their future on the EV-only lineup and several countries choosing to enforce a stop-sale date for ICE vehicles, the future seems to be all about EVs. But BMW CEO Oliver Zipse thinks a more pragmatic approach should be adopted. Speaking at an event in New York, Zipse highlighted the limited materials available for use in electric vehicles, as well as the growing dependence on some countries.
America’s 2024 Chevrolet Crossover Coupe Sped shrouded in cover in China
The Chevrolet Seeker, as it is called in China, has been secretly spied on. The pre-production car looks like a dead ringer for spy testing of Chevrolet’s mysterious compact crossover sports coupe in the US The model, which also looks like a shrunk Blazer, could see a global entry for GM. The Chinese market seeker, built by the SAIC-GM joint venture, will debut in the third quarter of 2023. The North American variant could debut sometime next year, possibly under a different name.
Audi Q5 2025: Design, Engine and Everything We Know About the Last ICE Version
There’s a new Audi Q5 on the horizon, with the third-generation SUV likely to be introduced in 2024 as 2025MY. It will be the last Q5 to feature an internal combustion engine but will feature a variety of hybrid options, including lightweight and plug-in versions. An independent illustration by CarScoops artist Josh Byrnes shows what we’d expect from an Audi volume salesman, based on what we’ve seen from spy shots.
Ram Thinks It Can Take Advantage Of Being Late To The Electric Pickup Game
To some, Ram’s seemingly belated approach to offering an EV runner in the truck space could be seen as Stellantis being behind. But Ram CEO Mike Koval claims the brand is biding its time, and suggests its electric offering will outperform the competition in terms of towing, haul, charge time and driving range. But with Rivian, Ford, and GM all getting their trucks ready for delivery, while the EV Ram truck won’t be in production until 2024, that’s a pretty big risk for Stellantis.
We Take the 2022 Hyundai i20 N On A 1300 Mile Journey
After testing the Hyundai i20 N on the track, we decided to explore what the much-lauded hot-hatch has to offer on the road by taking the 1,300-mile (2092 km) road trip from Perth to Esperance. Despite not having an active suspension setup, the i20 N strikes a fine balance between performance and comfort — even if the seats aren’t as comfortable as we’d like. There’s ample grip, with understeer dampening the mechanical LSD, and the engine pulling firmly across all gears. It may not be as fun as the Focus ST, but it certainly presents itself as a more mature and thorough alternative.
If the Production Cybertruck Will Be Like This Then We Don’t Want It
The delayed Cybertruck was showcased at Tesla’s Cyber Rodeo last week, and it gave some observers a chance to get a close look at their first prototype. While this is only a pre-production model, the fit and finish can be a concern. Showcased are giant panel gaps, broken rearview mirror mounts, and peeling off the cover on the rear camera case. While there’s time to work things out before production, this isn’t the first time Tesla has demonstrated a build quality that lacks inspiration.
I’m Stuck With A 4WD Jeep In The Sand And It’s All My Fault
If you’re into off-roading, chances are you’ll get stuck at some point — that’s exactly what happened to Thanos Pappas from CarScoops. Admittedly, it might have been different had the momentum been maintained, and the road-oriented tires on the Jeep Compass 4xe might not help the issue. Still, being stranded in search of that perfect shot is a right of passage for many of us!
