The Ford Motor Company is on fire in 2021, heading into 2022. The automaker’s product catalog has grown with a new electric vehicle (EV) model and two red-hot SUVs, and the picture for 2022 is just as rosy. The F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck and E-Transit electric utility van are coming soon, and many other Ford models receive significant technology upgrades for the new model year. Here’s an overview of everything new at Ford for 2022.
The Bronco returns to Ford’s lineup for 2021 in one of the most anticipated vehicle launches in decades. The fanfare is still going strong into 2022, and Ford hasn’t shipped all of the early orders it received for the SUV, so the changes for the new model year are light. The update for the 2022 Bronco is limited to two new paint color options: Hot Pepper Red and Eruption Green.
The Bronco Sport beat its Bronco counterpart to the market, and while it’s popular, it’s not as short in supply as the larger SUVs. He saw a shuffle of trim levels for the 2022 model year. The Big Bend package is now called the Convenience package, the Outer Banks package is now called the Tech package, and the Badlands package is now called the Premium package. Three new paint colors are also available, including Bronze Smoke Metallic, Hot Pepper Red Tinted Clearcoat, and Velocity Blue Metallic.
The Ford EcoSport remains unchanged for the 2022 model year. The all-new model is expected for 2023 to ride on the new platform along with the global Ford Puma crossover.
Ford’s 2-row SUV saw several updates for 2022. The Edge is now available with two new gear packages: Black Appearance and Adventure. The Black Appearance Package includes 19-inch wheels, black badges, black mirror caps, and black skid plates. The Adventure package features 18-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tires, synthetic leather seats, and unique color accents throughout. New Flight Blue and Forged Green paint colors are available.
The Ford Escape remains unchanged for 2022 but gets three new paint color options. Atlas Blue Metallic, Flight Blue Metallic, and Iced Blue Metallic are now available.
The full-size Ford Expedition received significant changes for 2022 that expand the model line and add new functionality. The Expedition Timberline is a tougher, off-road capable SUV with 10.6-inch ground clearance and a powerful twin-turbo V6 that produces 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. The beefy Expedition also gets Trail Turn Assist, which uses braking on the inner rear wheels to tighten the turning radius.
The Stealth Edition Performance Package is available for the Expedition Limited and Limited Max trims and brings 22-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, sport-tuned suspension and gloss black trim.
All 2022 Expeditions get a number of the latest technologies, including an updated version of Ford’s Sync infotainment software. The standard 15.5-inch touchscreen runs Sync 4A, which features machine learning, over-the-air updates, and the ability to run multiple apps at once. New standard safety technologies include roadside detection, crossing assist, reverse braking assist, evasive steering assist and active air dam.
Ford is expanding its Explorer catalog for 2022 with a new ST-Line trim that brings the styling and look of the much more expensive ST to a lower price point. The ST-Line is built on XLT trim with 20-inch wheels, unique badging and upgraded interior finishes. It didn’t have the powerful V6 engine and much of the ST interior beauty, but the cheaper ST-Line trim still got the 300-hp 4-cylinder engine and Ford Co-Pilot360 safety gear.
Buyers who choose to upgrade to the full-fat Explorer ST can now opt for the rear-only drive option, which lowers costs and improves fuel economy for people living in warmer climates. A 400-hp engine option is now available for the King Ranch and Platinum trims. Both high-end Explorer trims also come as standard with the Technology package and the opportunity to choose a bench or captain’s seat for the second row at no extra cost.
The nation’s best-selling truck, the Ford F-150, is getting several technology and feature updates for the 2022 model year. Ford announced new available onboard scale options, smart hitch, and adaptive dampers for the truck, but the changes don’t stop there. The new STX Black Appearance package is available for the XL, XLT, Lariat and Platinum trims. Additionally, a group of bed utility options is now available for XL, XLT, Lariat King Ranch, Platinum and Tremor trims. Thanks King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited get the utility pack as standard kit.
The F-150 Raptor debuted as a new model for 2021, and for the 2022 model year, Ford added a new Raptor R truck with a V8 engine. More details will be available soon.
Lightning Change Ford F-150 2022
The all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning is debuting for the 2022 model year. Ford says the truck has a starting price of around $40,000 for the most basic commercial version and about $53,000 for the consumer-class XLT truck. Its electric drivetrain produces 563 hp and 775 pound-feet of torque for a zero-to-60 mph time in the mid-4s and a maximum (projected) towing capacity of 10,000 pounds.
The end of Ford’s line of heavy-duty trucks gets a host of new features and technologies for 2022. The newly available 12-inch infotainment touchscreen runs Sync 4, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, and more. The XLT and Lariat trims are available with a new look package, and the top King Ranch and Platinum trims get a new set of features that include:

The F-350, F-450, F-550, and F-600 Chassis Cabin Trucks get new technology and interior colors.
The all-new Ford Maverick for 2022. It’s a compact pickup that seats up to five people, a standard hybrid powertrain with a range of up to 500 miles per tank of gas, and a tow rating of up to 4,000 pounds with the right equipment. Ford offers a gas powertrain upgrade for trucks only, brings 250 hp and 277 pound-feet of torque and is available all-wheel drive (AWD). The Maverick pickup bed provides a variety of flexible and useful configurations for a variety of cargo management capabilities, and the truck can carry loads of up to 1,500 pounds.
The venerable Mustang pony car gets three new gear packages for 2022: a Stealth package with black wheels and trim, an Ice White package with white trim and aluminum wheels, and a Coastal Limited package with a unique pedestal rear spoiler and exterior trim. Ford is offering new wheel options and several new paint colors for the Mustang, which will be offered later in the 2022 model year.
The electrified Mustang Mach-E gets a new Ice White package with Star White Metallic Tri-Coat paint and white trim all over the vehicle. Revised California Route 1 trim joins the lineup with available AWD and new standard heated seats and steering wheel. Certain trims are now available on 19-inch wheels, and a black painted roof is now standard on both GT trims. Ford also officially renamed the Mach-E’s front trunk to “frunk.”
The mid-sized Ranger pickup gets several updates for 2022, including the return of the Ranger Splash from the 1990s. The truck has an orange and black hood, orange grille and colorful interior accents. Exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels are standard, along with dark accents on the bumper, fender vents and wheel lip.
The Ford Transit is America’s best-selling van and is receiving several quality-of-life upgrades for 2022. The van is now available with a 12-inch touchscreen, dual-seat option with front center console, and several new cars. cargo management and storage options.
The all-electric E-Transit is brand new for 2022 and provides an approximate range of 126 miles with a price tag of under $45,000. E-Transit supports AC and DC fast charging, and Ford equipped the van with a number of standard safety features and technologies not previously available in cargo vans: standard Ford Co-Pilot360 driver aid, standard 12-inch touchscreen with navigation and apps, cruise control adaptive, and unique fleet management technologies.
The smaller Transit Connect van gets 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels and new window options for 2022.
