Chevy wants you to feel and hear the Z06 in every way possible.

Anticipation for the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 continues to increase. We’ve seen countless videos and frankly, the wilder C8 may not be coming to metal any time soon. Chevy wanted to add to that anticipation by releasing a short Corvette Academy video about one of the most talked about aspects of the new Z06: the exhaust.

The video, embedded at the top of this page, tries to explain science behind the beautiful exhaust notes of the Corvette Z06 as seen and heard in the recently completed 106th Indianapolis 500. It’s not rocket science, we have to say, but it’s nothing short of amazing.

Chevy points out that they want Corvette C8 Z06 owners to feel the sensation of being in an exotic car based on the vibrations they feel and the sounds they hear. To do this, the Z06 exhausts fit into a center-mounted tip (not available outside the US) or a bezel that forms part of the car’s rear fascia, which is designed to reflect sound back into the cockpit for that immersive experience.

For the record, the Z06 engine is the largest flat-plane Crankshaft V8 in the world. As Chevy says, it’s something that hasn’t been on any other type of engine the company has had in the past.

Chevy also explains that there are two sets of valves that help change exhaust tone depending on usage – intake manifold valves and variable exhaust valves. This gate allows for a 2-degree incremental adjustment, which translates to four tone exhaust modes in the Z06. Instead, the previous settings just open and close.

Listen Again In Various Examples:

There are four exhaust modes: Weather, Tour, Sport and Track. The calmest of the four, made for your neighbors to love you. Tour is a little tougher than Weather, while Sports is even angrier. For maximum aural enjoyment, Track mode opens all valves so the driver can experience the full potential of the new Corvette Z06.

With the Corvette configurator still not showing the Z06, we’re pretty sure would-be owners get anxious when they can get their hands on their majestic-sounding supercar of the future.
