If you are considering an upcoming or existing EV truck, you may have a few questions. First, how long does it take to charge an electric pickup truck? Charge times vary by model, so you should know which one you want. Soon, you’ll be choosing between the Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, Hummer EV, Silverado EV, and Ram EV. Here’s how long it takes to charge each of these models’ batteries.
What makes EVs have different charge times?
The amount of time it takes to charge an electric vehicle depends on several things. What is the battery size? Is the vehicle equipped to handle fast charging? What type of charger does the owner use? Additionally, many different factors play into how long an EV charges. For most people, charging will mainly be done on a home charger. There are DC fast charging stations available, but you have to find them in the wild to use them. In addition, not all electric vehicles are equipped with fast charging capabilities.
How long does it take to charge a Ford F-150 Lightning?
As one of the most popular electric trucks to come, the F-150 Lightning should be capable in more ways than one. According to Ford, using a 150kW+ DC fast charger, the standard 98 kWh battery pack can charge from 15-80% in about 44 minutes. For Lightning’s 131 kWh extended range pack, it takes 41 minutes to do the same. However, charging from home without a DC fast charger will take 14 hours to complete a full charge at 220V. The automaker recommends charging 90% for everyday driving and 100% for occasional long trips. This helps extend battery life.
The Mobile Power Cord is capable of charging 30 Amps to both 240V and 120V outlets and is equipped with all Lightning F-150 models. In addition, the remote battery includes an 80A Ford Charge Station Pro charging kit, which provides the fastest home charging. It’s also the only way to get Ford Intelligent Backup Power, which turns your truck into a home generator.
Rivian R1T pengisian charging time
Furthermore, the Rivian R1T comes from an EV-only car manufacturer and is available now. However, Rivian struggled to keep up with demand, like most companies. The $67,000 electric pickup truck takes 13 hours to charge at 220V. That’s about an hour less than the F-150 Lightning using the same power. Using the exclusive Rivian Adventure Network fast charging system, the R1T can cover 140 miles in 20 minutes. According to Rivian, charging rates at these stations are initially 200kW but will be 300kW in the future.
Using a standard Rivian wall charger in your home will give you a range of 25 miles per hour. In addition, the charger can be plugged into a traditional home wall outlet with a voltage of 120V or 240V. This will also allow the Rivian R1T to connect to your home Wi-Fi and receive updates over the air.
GMC Hummer EV charging time
According to GMC, the Hummer EV pickup truck offers several charging options. There are more than 45,000 US public charging stations available across the country for owners away from home. All of these chargers are Level 2 or DC fast charging stations. With Level 2 charging, the Hummer EV will restore a driving range of 16 miles per hour. Alternatively, DC fast charging provides the Hummer EV with a range of 100 miles in about 10 minutes.
GMC claims DC fast charging is the fastest way to charge and the perfect answer for long trips in the Hummer EV. Level 2 and DC chargers can be found using the myGMC mobile app. The app can even help plan your route to your destination if you need to have a charger along the way.
Chevy Silverado EV charging times
According to MotorBiscuit, the Chevy Silverado EV offers 120-volt, 240-volt and DC fast charging. GM claims DC fast charging will give Silverado EV owners 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. It’s the same claim as the GMC Hummer EV, so we’ll have to see if that’s true when a pickup becomes available. If these figures were accurate, GM products would charge almost twice as fast as competitors.
Additionally, the electric Silverado will have a range of 400 miles per charge. This is likely a remote battery, just as the F-150 Lightning has two different long range batteries. With all these possibilities, the Silverado EV will quickly become one of the top choices in the electric pickup truck segment.
How long does it take to charge the Ram 1500 EV?

The EV Ram doesn’t come out until 2024 at the earliest, so it’s a bit far. Another electric pickup truck is much closer to availability in April 2022. As a result, we don’t know much about the Ram 1500 EV. According to Car and Driver, the Ram 1500 EV will have a driving range of up to 500 miles. The automaker has also promised fast DC charging speeds of up to 150 kWh.
Ram bid his time and set records from competitors over the next few years. As electric pickup trucks hit the market, Ram will sit back and wait to seize opportunities and fix mistakes before the big release. Once 2024 rolls around, we expect the Ram 1500 EV to soon be back on top as one of the best pickups available.
Electric pickup truck charging time
How long does it take to charge an electric pickup truck? Depending on which model you want to buy, charging times can vary greatly. Models like the Rivian R1T and Ford F-150 Lightning are available or nearing release. So, it’s a little more believable that they charge about 70% in 40 minutes. On the other hand, GM products such as the Hummer EV and the Chevy Silverado EV are still in the unknown category. We’ll have to wait and see if the automakers actually double their fast charging speeds compared to the competition. Lastly, the Ram 1500 EV is still too far to tell. We expect this electric pickup truck to make a big splash in the market and continue to improve battery life and charging times over the next few years.
