Have you ever been excited about a gift only to find a sock? While there’s nothing wrong with socks, they’re not very appealing. That’s how it felt when the Ford Ranger returned to North America. We’re glad this midsize truck reclaimed its rightful place in the lineup, but it feels like we’ve got a pair of socks instead of the cool gift we were hoping for. Has anything changed with the 2023 Ford Ranger? Will this mid-sized truck continue to be a useful but bland pair of socks in its class?
It’s only been four years, but the 2023 Ford Ranger will be upgraded

The 2023 model year represents only four years of the Ranger midsize truck on the market. This truck might be skipped if we don’t see any significant changes to this truck. Even though this Ford truck came with only one powertrain, it was very useful, like your favorite pair of socks, and quickly became a popular choice once again.
In fact, the Ranger and what it brings to market have now influenced GM’s pair of Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon. It’s far from GM to admit to such a thing, but both trucks have dropped several powertrain and body configurations, similar to what we find on the Ranger.
Will Ranger receive an upgrade for 2023, or will it work hard with the same build as before?
We’re aware of some changes to the latest model year for the Ford Ranger midsize truck. It rides the latest version of its platform. MotorTrend tells us that these changes, although unspecified, should be enough to keep the Ranger competitive with the rest of the segment. If you notice, most midsize trucks now offer an off-road focus, leaving the compact class for on-road needs.
Will we see a hybrid or EV version of the Ford Ranger in 2023?
We likely won’t have a hybrid or EV version of the Ranger for the 2023 model year. These power options should be available for future models. Given that Ford already has the electric F-150 Lightning, F-150 PowerBoost hybrid, and Maverick hybrid, the 2023 Ranger almost feels like it’s been left out of the conversation.
The current Ranger powertrain should carry over to 2023, but an electrified and hybrid version of this midsize truck is on its way. For now, we’ll have to settle for a 2.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission. One good news, this powertrain could see an increase in output for 2023, but we won’t know that until it arrives.
Can you buy a more attractive Ford midsize truck?
Of course, if you want a more exciting version of the Ford Ranger 2023, check out the new high-end Ford Ranger Raptor. This truck is ideal for any off-road situation you’ll find, and is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that produces 392 horsepower. The truck includes locking front and rear differentials, increased ground clearance and 33-inch all-terrain tires.
Should you consider buying a 2023 Ford Ranger?
If you are looking for a strong and reliable midsize truck with the Ford logo on the front, the Ranger is the truck for you. This midsize pickup can carry up to 1,905 pounds and tow as much as 7,500 pounds. If you’re expecting some exciting new developments in the Ranger lineup, you’ve just opened a gift and found a sock inside. Sorry.
