Love at first sight: Chevy’s new mid-engined Corvette is a true American supercar

I first saw the Corvette on my first trip to the US. I’m a car-crazy 16 year old and it was the third-generation long-lived Coke bottle Corvette that was on the market from 1968 to 1982. Needless to say, I fell in love.

Over the years, I have been fascinated by every new Corvette that appears on the glossy pages Roads & Tracks, Car and Driver and Motorcycle Trends—from the 1984 C4 Corvette, to the 1995 C5 to the 2005 C6. But that won’t be until 2018—a full 36 years after I first saw the Corvette in (fiberglass) form—when I would find myself behind one wheel. And it’s a truly awesome version of the C7 (2014-2019). And now, Chevrolet Philippines has presented the latest version of the game-changing and genre-changing American sports car—the sensational mid-engined C8 Corvette Stingray (a first). The exterior of the 2022 Corvette Stingray Coupe has bold, futuristic Italian proportions and I dare say, but still a Corvette. It is lean and muscular, with an athletic sculptural shape that conveys a sense of movement and power from every angle.

The level of supercar craftsmanship, premium materials and attention to detail were essential in bringing the 2022 Corvette together. The new engine location was really a focal point for the car’s design. This is the heart of this American supercar, and it’s like a jewel in a display case, visible through the large rear hatch like in a very expensive Italian exotic.

The fighter-inspired cab features a cockpit that not only migrates forward by 16.5 inches but also envelops the driver, delivering a high performance and aeronautical theme, vertical climate control and ultra-thin vents that minimize instrument panel height to create a comfortable atmosphere. . a low, roomy interior, and a new, square, two-spoke, small-diameter steering wheel that allows unobstructed views of the adjustable 12-inch instrument cluster display.
