New Ford Ranger: A rugged new look and extra engine options for the pick-up market leader

Ford has launched the next generation of the wildly popular Ranger with a new look and more engine options.

Ford says it has put the global pick-up world “on notice” with a new design Ranger is sold in more than 180 countries.

Ranger is currently the leader of the European pick-up sector and recently posted a new September year-over-year sales record of 45,539 units, with a market share of 39.9 percent.

Ford said customer feedback was key to developing the rugged new look of the next-generation Ranger, describing it as “bold and confident”.

The design features a bold new grille, and the C‑clamp headlight treatment at the front, while the shoulder lines on the sides incorporate bolder wheel arches.

For customers who want extra power and torque, Ford has added a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel and expanded it for the Ranger

For the first time, the Ford Ranger is offering matrix LED headlights.

Inside, the cabin is like a car ride, using soft touch materials. At the heart of the interior is the large 10.1-inch or 12-inch touchscreen in the center stack.

Many of the traditional driving mode controls have been moved from the dashboard and center console to this screen, where the driver can monitor driveline, steering angle, vehicle pitch and roll angle and other controls.

The screen is also connected with the help of a 360 camera with a parking lot.

Under the new bodywork, Ford has upgraded the chassis, with the new Ranger set to ride with a 50mm longer wheelbase and 50mm wider track.

It will also offer a new cargo management system designed with dividers to accommodate various sized items such as wood or toolbox.

Owners can also create a smaller compartment to store objects that would otherwise fit in the cab, using an ultra-strong spring-loaded serration system mounted on rails bolted to each side of the cargo box.

The tailgate can double as a mobile work bench with integrated ruler and clamp pocket for measuring, gripping and cutting building materials.

Other touches include new bed covers made of tough plastic and extra cargo hold points on strong steel tube rails.

Ford says the hydro-formed front end structure creates more room in the engine bay for the new V6 engine.

It also opens up the front of the pick-up to allow more airflow to the radiator, which helps keep temperatures low when towing or carrying heavy loads.

Ford said customers wanted greater power and torque options for towing heavy loads and extreme off-roading, so the team added the company’s 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel and expanded it for the Ranger. It is one of three turbodiesel engine options available at launch.

The next-generation Ranger will come with a choice of Single-Turbo and Bi-Turbo 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder diesel engines.

Single-Turbo comes in two performance levels. The Bi-Turbo engine is a more advanced performance variant for customers who want more power but need to maintain fuel economy.

Customers will be able to personalize their Ranger with over 150 work, urban and adventure accessories.

The order book will open in late 2022 for customer delivery in early 2023.
