After a complete redesign for 2021, we’re impressed by the improved handling and comfort of the Rogue. We are pleased to announce that all of that is carried over into 2022, along with a new engine and drivetrain that offers increased power and increased fuel efficiency. It’s vibrant, fun to drive, and while the CVT can still buzz a bit during highway cruising, it’s less noticeable than before. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, but any Rogue 2022 can be selected with all-wheel drive (AWD) for $1,500.

On the outside, the Rogue has a relatively rugged look, fitting Nissan’s lineup between the smaller Rogue Sport and the larger Murano. Various body parts help improve aerodynamics and reduce wind noise. Inside, drivers are treated to Nissan’s excellent Zero Gravity seats, which are supportive and comfortable. The second row has ample room for adults, and cargo space is competitive for the segment, with 36.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats expanded to 74.1 cubic feet with the seats folded.

Standard features include LED headlights, an 8-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and 17-inch alloy wheels. All Rogues are also equipped with the Nissan Safety Shield 360 safety suite, with lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot warning, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection.

Subsequent SV trims add things like an 8-way electric driver’s seat and ProPilot Assist, Nissan’s semi-autonomous driving assistance program. Above it is an SL trim with leather, a panoramic moonroof, and a 360-degree camera. The top Platinum model offers diamond-coated semi-aniline leather seats, a 12.3-inch digital gauge package and a premium Bose audio system.

Chevrolet Equinox

Despite the 2-row compact crossover segment being one of the busiest, the 2022 Equinox has been a good seller for Chevrolet due to its low price, good standard features and comfortable ride. The turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine sends power to the front or all four wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission. Its 170 horsepower may not seem like much, but it keeps the compact Equinox moving, and the crossover can pull up to 1,500 pounds.

With the update for 2022, the exterior features a wider and more aggressive grille and a sturdier rear view. The higher trim gets things like bigger wheels and a glossy black grille.

Inside, the seats are comfortable and supportive, with a center touchscreen for infotainment. We also like that there are buttons and knobs for climate control and audio. There’s good legroom in the back, and the bench can recline. Cargo space is ample 63.9 cubic feet with all the seats folded, though that’s a bit small compared to its competitors.

Standard features are pretty basic and include upholstery, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, four USB ports, and OnStar. Safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and lane guard assistance. The top trim gets things like leather upholstery, adaptive cruise control, more safety features, and a premium audio system.

Which is Right for Me?

We’re pleased to see that the Rogue continues to improve every year, and the 2022 Nissan Rogue, with its more powerful and fuel-efficient engine, is another step in the right direction. The Rogue 2022 is sporty, fun to drive, looks good, and has good space for passengers and cargo.

A little on the softer side, the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox is still a very pleasant compact SUV. Travel is geared more towards comfort than sport, but the Equinox still has good safety features, comfortable front and rear seats, and lots of upgrades for a reasonable price.
