Walter the Chevy Cat Becomes an Impossible Olympic Star

That’s funny too. But will the cat come back? Viewers have been clamoring for the sequel on social and in YouTube comments. (January 31, 2022 UPDATE: Walter is back, more like a dog than ever.)

“I have a cat at home named Ralphie. He is NOT the inspiration [for Walter]’ said Pascoe. ‘He’s mean, biting visitors and sleeping all day.’

So, ads don’t resemble real life? hiss!

The venue is broadcast throughout the Tokyo Olympics on the NBC network, with various social and digital extensions.

“We knew a lot of advertisers would show athletes doing amazing things, and we wanted to stand out,” Pascoe said. “So Walter the cat became our athlete.”

Jenkins shot: 60 on a private, 100,000-acre ranch in Utah, with nine similarly trained cats on set. (That’s 81 lives! But no animals were hurt, yadda yadda.)

“The cats have their own air-conditioned trailer, the agency’s creative team doesn’t,” Pasco said. “Each cat has a specific unique ability: jump into a truck, break through a door, get out of the water. The real cat performed so well, we ended up using very little CGI.”
